Grammar rules




Find funny cartoons and explain grammatical rules based on them. They should be 5 grammatical rules.

I used to get toys as birthday gifts but now that I'm in pre-school, all I get is money for my college fund… 

            Rule1:

Used to + verb refers to a habit or state in the past. It is used only in the past simple.
*Past states*

We also say used to to express a state that existed in the past but doesn't exist now. States are not actions. They are expressed using state verbs such as have, get, believe, know and like.

Explain: The form of the negative is subject + didn't + use and to talk about things which we didn't do in the past but do now, is didn't use to.

 Past Progressive (Past Continuous) + puts emphasis on the course of an action in the past

  Rule3:
 is present perfect tense Subject + Have / Has + Past Participle to show an action begun in the past but continuing up to the present.


1-      Except for the people, the hours, the works, the stress, and the pay ,this is the best job I ever had.
Rule: We use the Present Perfect tense with time references that refer to the time up to now. For example: today, this week, this month, ever, never, already, recently, yet etc.
Examples, It's the best car I've ever had.

pretend you're starting in a reality show about a kid who can make his dream come true if he works hard and gets good grades.

           Rule4:

It is possible to fulfill a condition which is given in the if-clause.
1-      marry you? maybe someday not on school night.
     Rule:  Some day/someday
When 'someday' is used in the sense of 'a non-named but particular day in future', or 'someday' is used in the sense of 'an indefinite day in future. (EX) You will succeed someday.
